Zoom drawing #7
An ode to Crayola
Drawing starts at 6pm which means I’m often at my desk working when I realise it’s time to login. It takes a while for my brain to switch over and get into the rhythm of drawing the random selection of items which is on offer that evening.
Last night was no exception, I was working on a colour coded gift guide for Instagram and two minutes later I was trying to draw some bottles and a duck (note: I hate drawings animals).
When I am still trying to find paper at the start of a session I know I’m going to need something bold and quick to work with. It is not the moment to try and find paints and a water pot, it isn’t the time for a delicate pencil drawing and it definitely isn’t the moment to attempt another elaborate screen print. It’s at these moments that I reach for the trusty pot of Crayola wax crayons.
For something which was designed for children they are surprisingly subtle tools to work with, you can colour mix, create light and shade and best of all the colours are super vibrant.
I took some creative license with the set up last night as I wanted a completely coloured in page, dense with texture and rich colours. Unfortunately the table the set up was on was white which is where I deviated from what was in front of me!
Now onto that duck, I tried, I failed so I chopped it off. You can see a glimpse of his face in the finished image but last night wasn’t the night for ducks so I moved on, you win some, you lose some!
