A back of the envelope special

This weeks post is a three for the price of one special. Lat night I was once again caught out without materials at home, so I did the only thing I could; I reached for an envelope and a pencil that I sharpened with a kitchen knife over the sink, (with moderate success) and started drawing.

Instead of despairing at this chaotic lack of materials, I thought it would be more fun to celebrate some the work I have made on the back of an envelope over the past year.

I actually think some of my best work has been done on the backs of envelopes, it’s a freeing way to work as there are no expectations, and the torn edges somehow bring extra freedom in the way a crisp edge of a ‘proper’ piece of paper never could.

Last night’s envelope offering. A pencil sharpened with a kitchen knife and a sharpie were my only tools.

I seem to only open envelopes one way. Crayola wax crayons and pencil on an envelope. This one lives on my fridge as one of my favourites.

Finally this expressive piece, on this occasion there were no pencils in the house so I raided the recycling, found some wash tape and went wild on the back of a Lewisham Council envelope. It’s mad and free and also lives on the fridge!

Short and sweet this week as life is chaotic, but I hope you’ve enjoyed my envelope special, I am sure it won’t be the last!
